About Salzburg Trip
Salzburg Trip is an independent travel guide dedicated to Salzburg and its surroundings — the Salzkammergut lakes, Berchtesgaden and Bavaria, the High Tauern Alps, and the gateway cities of Innsbruck, Munich, Vienna and Český Krumlov. Our mission is to plan the trip you actually want, honestly: which Mozart concert is the real thing and which is a tourist production, where the original Mozartkugel really comes from, how the Hallstatt day trip works without the crowds, and whether the Sound of Music tour is worth your morning.
Our approach
Every guide, itinerary and recommendation on this site is built on first-hand research. We name real venues (the Hohensalzburg Fortress concerts, Mirabell Palace, St. Peter's, the Marionette Theatre), real places to eat and drink (Café Tomaselli, the Augustiner Bräustübl, the Stiegl brewery, where to find real Salzburger Nockerl), and we quote real prices in euros. We give honest assessments of tourist traps — the interchangeable "Mozart" concerts, the fake Mozartkugel marketing, the day-trip operators that rush Hallstatt at peak crowds. If something is genuinely not worth it, we say so.
What we cover
Salzburg Trip covers Salzburg and its environs in real depth: the baroque old town (the Hohensalzburg Fortress, Mirabell Palace and Gardens, Hellbrunn and its trick fountains, the DomQuartier and the Residenz), the Mozart and classical-music scene (with a comparison of every major concert), Sound of Music in all its forms, the salt mines of Hallein-Dürrnberg and Berchtesgaden, and the day-trip regions other guides treat as paragraphs: the Salzkammergut lakes (Hallstatt, Wolfgangsee, Mondsee, Bad Ischl, Gmunden), Berchtesgaden and the Eagle's Nest, the High Tauern Alps (Zell am See, Kaprun, the Grossglockner, the Krimml Waterfalls), and the gateway cities of Innsbruck, Munich, Vienna and Český Krumlov.
How we earn revenue
Salzburg Trip is a free resource. We earn commissions when you book tours and activities through our affiliate links with GetYourGuide (partner ID LDXYA0P) and Viator (Partner ID P00305208, a Tripadvisor company). This costs you nothing extra and helps us keep our guides free and up to date. We do not run our own tours, we have no financial relationship with hotels, restaurants or concert promoters, and we have no Booking.com / Expedia / Airbnb affiliations. GetYourGuide and Viator commissions are our only revenue streams — which is why we can be honest about which concerts, palaces and day trips are worth your money. Read our full affiliate disclosure.
Available in 8 languages
Salzburg Trip publishes in English (canonical), German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch and Polish. German is a priority because a large share of Salzburg's visitor market is the German-speaking audience (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) — and most English-language Salzburg blogs simply ignore them. Our German content uses native phrasing (Salzburg, Hohensalzburg, Salzkammergut), not auto-translation.
